Characteristics of Mango
The Mango tree is a large branched tree growing close to 30-40 m in height and has a crown radius extending up to 10 m. The fruit generally takes close to 3-4 months to ripe and varies in shape, size, color, fragrance & several other characteristics. Usually, Mangoes are oval-shaped and can also take up a round shape depending on the variety. The size varies from 2.5 cm to 30 cm and weighs roughly around 200-250 GMS in the Pakistani subcontinent. Mangoes are grown in over 1.1 Mn Hectares producing 11 Mn tonnes and the states contributing to the production of Mangoes are Punjab (54,000 hectares), Sindh (46,000 hectares), Balochistan (11,000 hectares), and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (2,000 hectares).
The main mango growing districts in the Punjab province are Multan, Bahawalpur, Muzaffargarh, and Rahim Yar Khan. In the province of Sindh it is mainly grown in Mir Pur Khas, Hyderabad, and Thatta in the province of NWFP it is grown in D.I Khan, Peshawar, and Mardan.

Chaunsa, also known as chausa, is a mango cultivar indigenous to South Asia. It is grown mainly in Pakistan and some parts of India; both countries export significant quantities of the fruit. The main centers of chaunsa cultivation are Rahim Yar Khan and Multan in Pakistani Punjab.
These mangoes are primarily grown in the southern parts of Pakistan especially Karnataka. They are rich in carotenes – a rich source of Vitamin A. Anwar Ratol (sometimes spelt Anwar Rataul) is a small, yellow variety of mango known for its sweetness and fiberlessness. It is sometimes called the ‘mini powerhouse’. It is cultivated in the Punjab and Sindh regions of Pakistan
The ‘Sindhri’ mango is a mango cultivar grown in Sindhri, a town in Sindh, and other areas of Sindh province in Pakistan. It is a large oval shaped mango which is extremely sweet and aromatic.

Pakistani Dussheri mango is hands-down much sweeter, pulpier and fragrant than the Indian Alphonso.
